  1. Alcohol enters the body orally. It is then absorbed into the blood and carried through the body. This is how it reaches the brain. Alcohol is a depressant so when it reaches the brain it slows its activity down. This causes confusion, lack of consciousness and motor neurons, and lack of control throughout the rest of your body.

No, not all drugs are the same. Most have different effects on the brain and some don’t even effect the brain at all. They are all composed of different chemicals that harm your body in different ways.

Yes, scientifically your addiction is a disease. However you can cure this disease with willpower and changes in your lifestyle.

  2. 1) The drug I choose was cocaine. When it gets in to the brain, it blocks the uptake pumps. This makes it so you have extra dopamine in your brain, giving you the happy feelings. If you use it to much, the brain responds by lowering the amount of dopamine it realizes.

    2) No, not all drugs are the same. Some have different drugs that affect the brain differently, if they affect the brain at all.

    3) Yes, drug addiction can be a disease. Drug addiction is curable if you try to lead a healthier lifestyle and some willpower.

  3. 1. Marijuana is a mixture of the dried and shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the cannabis sativa plant. Marijuana affects your brain function by disrupting your ability to do complex tasks, as well as your pursuit of academic, athletic, or other life goals that require you to be 100 percent focused and alert. Long-term users self-report less life satisfaction, poorer education, and job achievement, and mental health problems compared to non-users.
    2. No all drugs are different because they do different things to your body. Some are worse than others too.
    3. I would say that it is an addiction but it can be cured by will power to stop using the drug. Although sometimes you could have used it so much that your body will never get rid of it and you will always have the disease.

  4. Marijuana. Marijuana is a plant that has a chemical delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. This chemical messes with your brain. People use the excuse everyone does however that is an incorrect statement. The reason that this drug is so effective is the THC reacts with your brain to release a chemical called dopamine and that is what is a happy drug. it effects the part of your brain that has decision making.

NO all drugs are not the same. Some drugs are legal and made to help you however others are not and can harm you. All drugs can harm you but if you take them correctly you should be safe. Drugs also can affect your brain differently.

I would say no it’s not a disease because a disease normally isn’t a choice you have a choice in taking drugs. How ever can you be cured I guess that’s a yes they have help centers and id be happy to help you. But you also have to ask him is it worth taking the drugs.

  6. 1. The drug I chose was Ecstasy. It is known as the club drug. It is made up of chemical substances such as caffeine, dextromethorphan, amphetamines, PCP, or cocaine. Ecstasy affects the neurons that use serotonin to communicate with other neurons. The serotonins control our mood, aggression, sexual activity, sleep, and sensitivity to pain. It could also cause memory loss.

    2. No each drug affects the body in a different way. They are each dangerous in there own way. Your body will react differently to each drug.

    3. I would tell them that when you’re addicted it is a disease of the brain. This disease of the brain causes you to behave differently. There are was to break out of your addiction but you may have to have some major lifestyle changes. There are treatments and recovery options for addictions.

  7. 1. There are many effects of steroids. The effects will maybe turn your skin a more yellow color, you’ll have high blood pressure, increases bad cholesterol and increases good cholesterol, severe acne, and in some cases you’ll have liver and kidney tumors.
    2. No, for one example, it affects the brain in different ways.
    3. It is a disease. There is also a cure, you can go to rehab.

  8. 1. Marijuana is a very commonly used drug, in fact it is the most commonly used drug in the United States. Marijuana impairs judgment, coordination, memory, and perception. Marijuana clings on to cells in your brain and sits there and rots. When you are high you may partake in behaviors you would not normally do. This is very risky and could potentially be very dangerous. Marijuana has many street names: pot, weed, herb, ganja, dope, kush, chronic, mary jane, and boom.

    2. No, all drugs are different. Some drugs you can not overdose on, and some drugs you can overdose on very easily and die. Some drugs are gateway drugs to other extreme drugs. All drugs are very dangerous, but they are definitely not the same. They all do different things to your brain and your body.

    3. I personally would tell the patient that they do not have a disease. Being addicted to drugs is not a disease, it is simply an addiction. Your body tells you that you want more and your brain begins to think more about the drug and you begin to do it often. You can be cured, you have to submit to free your mind of drugs and when you think of them, simply think of something else right away. An addiction and a disease is two completely different things. You can be cured from addiction; it just takes a lot of time and effort.

  9. 1. Marijuana is a simple mixture of leaves and stems from the cannabis plant. These leaves can be plainly eaten, but are usually smoked in cigarettes or hollowed out cigars. The active drug in marijuana is called THC. This drug impairs judgment and memory and learning. This is because the hippocampus plays a critical role in certain types of learning. Disrupting its normal functioning can lead to problems studying, learning new things, and recalling recent events. TCH can shut down portions of the hippocampus. Without reflexes or memory, dangerous situations can arise.
    2. No. Many drugs have different affects than others. For instance: smoking marijuana once is not nearly as deadly as doing LSD or heroin, both of which can be deadly on the first use. Other drugs, such as cocaine and heroin are incredibly addictive, while some like caffeine and marijuana are not.
    3. First, I would tell the patient that the addiction is not a disease and more of a sort of chronic disorder. I would tell him/her that he/she could be cured, but that I would take work on his/her part. Addictions can be beaten through withdrawal and rehabilitation programs. Some people can quit by going “cold turkey,” while others need repeated stints in rehab facilities (I’m looking at you, Lindsay Lohan.) Whatever the case, these addictions can be beaten and cured.

  10. 1.) Your boss at the drug treatment clinic asks you to become an expert on one drug. Select one drug to research. Describe it and its effects the brain. The drug I chose to become an expert on is Heroine. Heroine is a highly addictive, rapid acting, drug derived from opium. Opium is a naturally occurring substance that is extracted from the seed of the poppy. It gives a strong euphoric state, and alternating feelings of alertness and drowsiness. Heroine depresses the central nervous system, and all sensory pathways
2.) Are all drugs the same? Explain. No, all drugs are not the same. They come in a variety of forms and substances, and affect the brain in body in completely different ways.
3.) What would you tell a patient who asks, "Is my addiction a disease? Will I ever be cured?" Justify your answer.
I would say “No, your addiction is not a disease; you can and will be cured. It will be a long, and difficult journey, however you will be cured”

  12. 1. Drugs such as marijuana can slow down the brain and neuron transmission speed. Or like cocaine can speed up the brain and cause perminant damage. Some drugs can blr your vision and cause you to loose motor skills.
    2. No drugs do not all affect the brain the same way. (see question one)
    3. A drug addiction is where the brain thinks that is has a need for a substance such as a drug all the time.
    4. It is hard for someone to stop an addiction because they’re body has grown tolerant and used to the drug being in their system and when it is taken away they have withdrawal which can consist of sleeplessness, shakes,

  13. 1. Ecstasy. It is a drug that is man made not grown like marijuana. It can be made out of almost anything and has the street names of "E", "XTC", "X", "Adam", "hug", "beans", "clarity", "lover's speed", and "love drug". Since it is a drug it changes the bodies’ chemicals which are used for communication. Once these are changed the body can become addicted which is a disease.

    2. No. Although almost all drugs do the same thing, some are more powerful than others and they affect the brain in different ways.

    3. Yes it is a disease. You can also be cured, by going to rehab and having will power.

  14. 1. Ever wonder how those bulky weight lifters get so big? As some may be because they hit the gym everyday, most take steroids. Steroids are pills or injections. Users use the drug 10 to 100 times the amount that is prescribed by the doctor. A major health consequence from abusing anabolic steroids can include prematurely stunted growth through early skeletal maturation and accelerated puberty changes. Other effects are yellowing of skin, shrinking testicles, growing boobs, facial hair, pimples, extreme mood swings, etc. It’s like having your period all of the time.
    2. No, not all drugs are the same. Different drugs affect different parts of the brain and body. For example, steroids affects the brain and the appearance. Alcohol does not affect the appearance, but does affect the organs and brain. All drugs work in different ways.
    3. I would say it was a disease, but it can be cured. There are medications and rehab you can go through to help you end the addiction. It can happen. It is a disease because it is ruining the cells, organs, and brain in your body. Drugs makes your brain think it needs more of the drug because it changes the brain completely. IT CAN BE CURED. The affects of the drug may not go away, but you can end the addiction.

  15. 1. Marijuana is a mixture of the dried and shredded leaves, stems, seeds and flowers of the cannabis sativa plant. Marijuana has a chemical in it called THC. A lot of other chemicals are found in marijuana, about 400 of them. THC is the main psychoactive ingredient. Marijuana’s potency is related to the amount of THC it contains. The THC content of marijuana has been increasing since the 70’s. The most common method is smoking loose marijuana rolled into a cigarette, but can also be smoked through a water pipe, or in a cigar hollowed out and filled with the drug. It can also be brewed as tea or mixed with food. THC triggers brain cells to release the chemical that creates good feelings, for a short time. Marijuana affects memory, judgment, and perception.
    2. No they are not all the same; they all affect your body in a different way. For example marijuana affects memory, judgment, and perception. MDMA uses may feel alert, anxious, agitated, faint, dizzy, lose a sense of time, experience other changes in perception, and sweating or chills may occur.
    3. Yes it could be, you can be if you seek treatment and with the help and support of your friends.

  16. 1. Your boss at the drug treatment clinic asks you to become an expert on one drug. Select one drug to research. Describe it and its effects the brain.
The drug that I chose to research is Cocaine. This is a very addictive drug that has serious effects on your body and especially the brain. Cocaine is a purified extract from a coca bush. This drug is so highly addictive because it enters the bloodstream and goes straight to the brain. When it enters the brain cocaine reduces the number of receptors. Soon you need more and more doses to get the same effect as you did the first time you used it. This is what makes cocaine so lethal.
2.) Are all drugs the same? Explain
No, not all drugs are the same. All drugs hurt your body the effects of them all are quite different.
3.) What would you tell a patient who asks, "Is my addiction a disease? Will I ever be cured?" Justify your answer.
Yes all addictions are diseases. You can be cured but you must cure yourself there is no magic button that will make you stop. You have to help your body stop.

  17. 1. Anabolic steriods are used illegally to help build massive muscles. Not only do anabolic muscles build muscles, they also promote the developement of male sexual characteristics. Anabolic ateroids can be taken through pills or needle injections. Although the steroids build muscles, there are other non-preferable effects of its use:

THEY ARE: stunted growth, early skeletal maturation, and accelerated puberty changes, as well as the yellowing of the skin, fluid retention, an increase in bad cholesterol and decrease in good cholesterol, severe acne, and in rare instances, liver and kidney tumors.

    (other gender related effects)
MALE- shrinking of testicles, developement of breasts, infertility, baldness, increased risk of prostate cancer
FEMALE- growth of facial hair, male-patterned baldness, changes in menstrual cycle, and a permanently deepened voice

    2. No, not all drugs are the same. Drugs come in different forms, like pills or needle injections. They also have different effects on your body as well as your brain. Drugs known as stimulants make you happier and increase energy and alertness while depressants lower your mood and slow down energy and alertness.

    3. I would tell my patient that it is a disease because it ruins cells, organs, and the brain in your body. However, the addiction can be cured by going to rehab and certain medications. While some effects are irreversible, the addiction can be cured, and the patient's health will increase.
