Atoms

This next post will have to do with the concept of the atom. I would suggest that you do some research on the concept of the atom. What is it? What is it made up of? Who are the people responsible for developing the model of the atom and the modern atomic theory? While you are researching this material, you are to write your findings into a Word document, and when you have finished your work, you can copy your word document and paste it into a comment box on this post. You may work with a partner, but make sure that both of your names on the posting.

John Dalton came up with the atomic theory. Lavoiser discovered a new chemical to more accurately determine compositions of compounds. From that Proust created the Law of Constant Composition. By 1803, Dalton had created the Law of Simple Multiple Proportions which explained how and why elements could combine with each other by showing fixed ratios of the combinations and with that Dalton had made his atomic theory. Dalton said that elements are made up of atoms, the smallest thing in known existence, also that each element had a fixed ratio of different atoms that made it what it is. His model of the atom was that they were small invisible particles that had a certain mass, size, and chemical behavior.

Atoms are “building blocks” of matter that make up everyday objects, such as desks, chairs, etc. Atoms are made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons. A Greek philosopher named Democritus developed the idea of the atom. Erwin Schrodinger developed an equation that scientists use today to understand the theory behind atoms. This equation can predict the properties of all atoms and molecules. He took the ideas from de Broglie and Heisenberg, and he made it into an equation that was named after himself.

An atom is made up of protons, neurons, and electrons. An atom is the smallest basic unit of matter. Ernest Rutherford created the solar system model as we know it today. He found out than an atom was mostly empty space with a positively charged nucleus. Neils Bohr found that electrons had dictated orbits around the nucleus. Both got the Nobel Prize in physics.

The atom is the smallest basic unit of matter. Atoms consist of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons make up the nucleus, or the center of the atom, and electrons revolve around the nucleus. Two major contributors to the model of the atom and the Modern Atomic Theory are Niles Bohr and John Dalton. Dalton’s atomic theory has four major parts; one: All matter is built of atoms and atoms are indivisible and indestructible. Two: All atoms of the same element have the same mass and properties. Three: Compounds are made by forming two or more different kinds of atoms together. Four: A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms. It is very important that all of these people contributed to the Modern Atomic Theory because it is the theoretical base of chemistry.

  5. An atom is the smallest basic unit of matter. All atoms have the same basic structure. It consists of three types of smaller particles: Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons. Protons are the same as neutrons, and they are the center of the atom or the atomic nucleus. Electrons are the smaller particles outside of the nucleus. Electrons have a negative electric charge, Neutrons have a neutral charge, as it says in their name, and Protons have a positive electric charge. The whole atom is electrically neutral.

There is one particular type of atom called an element, and it can not be broken down any more. Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Metals are all elements. The different kinds of elements are defined by the different number of protons. All hydrogen has one proton, but oxygen has eight. There are 91 elements. A compound is a substance made of atoms of different elements such as: H2O and CO2.

An ion is an atom that has gained or lost one or more electrons. When an atoms electron gains an electrical charge it leads to an ion. Some are positive and some are negative. If an atom loses more then one electron it becomes positively charge, but if it gains one or more it becomes negatively charged.

A molecule is two or molecules held together by a covalent bond. A covalent bond is when two atoms share a pair of electrons.

In 1897, JJ Thomson discovered the electron and its negative charge. Eugene Goldstein later figured out that protons have a positive charge. James Chadwick discovered the neutron and its neutral charge. Rutherford put it all together.

  8. The first person to propose the atom was the Greek philosopher Democritus. It wasn’t until around the 1600’s that a group of scientists propose a model of the atom. It wasn’t even till the 1970’s that John Dalton used the model to explain how atoms made up matter. J.J Tompson discovered the electron. Tompson suggested that the atom wasn’t invisible but a kindof puzzle made up of smaller pieces. He used the cathode ray tube to do this. The cathode is a vacuum in which an electric current will pass through.

  9. An atom is the foundation of matter (anything that can be physically touched). An atom is made up of three, extremely small particles called subatomic particles; protons, neutrons and electrons. The modern atomic theory has many people that contributed to it since the early 1400’s such as; Democritus, Heraclitus, and John Dalton(created the Billiard Ball model). However the main creator of the modern atomic theory was Ernest Rutherford(he also created the first solar system model

  10. The atom is the smallest form of particles that there is. They are the building blocks of all matter. There are three types of atoms, the proton, neutron, and electron. The proton carries a positive charge and the neutron carries no charge while the electron has a negative charge.
John Dalton was the first person to discover the atom in the 19th century. His atomic theory is still in existence today but is a little more complex than 4 rules. The atom is the smallest particle in existence, its name means uncuttable.

An atom consists of a central nucleus and is surrounded by a cloud of negatively charged electrons. The nucleus is made of both positively charged Protons and negatively charged neutrons. The Protons and Neutrons are bound together by electromagnetic force. Erwin Schrödinger was the scientist who discovered the model of the atom. Neils Bohr was responsible for coming up with the modern atomic theory.

An atom is a fundamental piece of matter that can be physically touched. Everything in the universe is made of matter, besides energy, so everything is made up of atoms.
Atoms are made up of subtonic particles. The three subtonic particles are protons, neutrons, and electrons. The center of an atom is called the nucleolus that is made up of the protons and neutrons. The electrons fly around above the nucleolus. The electrons have a negative charge while the protons. The number of protons and electrons are always equal and sometimes, but not always, the number of neutrons is the same.
An English chemist and meteorologist John Dalton made up the atomic theory. He based it on four basic ideas: chemical elements composed of atoms, atoms of an element were identical in weight, the atoms of different elements had different weights, atoms combined in small whole-number ratios (1:1, 1:2, 2:1, 2:3) from compounds.
Niels Bohr and Erwin Schrodinger created a second version of the model. Together they used Schrodinger’s ideas, and Bohr created the model. Their model was a second version of Werner Heisenberg’s model, the only difference is that Heisenberg’s was a mathematical model, while theirs was visual.
